Why Saname Counseling?

Why Us?

I opened this online practice to build an affirming space where growth, change, and healing are prioritized for all folx. I strongly believe in creating a road-map for change that is specific to you, removing the emphasis on traditional “talk therapy”. Therapists at Saname Counseling address not only your thoughts but also your behaviors and the connection between your mind and body. Within your first six sessions, you’ll acquire valuable coping skills to ease your symptoms. As you progress in treatment, you’ll delve deeper into enhancing your mind-body connection, fostering self-compassion, healing past wounds, addressing unhealthy attachments, and discovering your authentic self.

Through tailored, targeted interventions, Saname Counseling therapists help you modify behaviors, transform thought patterns, heal traumas, and enhance the mind-body connection. In my 9+ years of counseling experience, clients have shown significant progress after learning about the interconnectedness of their behavioral, cognitive, and somatic experiences. This holistic, action-oriented approach is at the center of my practice.

Meet Our Founder

Johanna Torres, MS, LPC-S

“I dreamed of this practice for a while, and I’m grateful I was able to move past my own worries to take the steps I needed to get here. In my early career, I worked far more than I needed to, was in a peak people-pleasing phase, and did all I could to “lean in”, seeking validation and acceptance in people and places that couldn’t fulfill my needs. My struggle was three-fold: high-achieving, perfectionistic, and living with high-functioning anxiety. I ignored many warning signs-nonstop worry, chronic migraines, and insomnia-pushing through just as I had been taught and expected to do my entire life. Eventually, my mind and body reached their limit and said, “We’re done.” After some denial and resistance, I started working with a therapist who guided me and helped me heal. I discovered how to work with the high-achiever and perfectionist within me without compromising my ambition or mental well-being. I also learned how powerful therapy is and that I wanted to share this power with others.

My time in therapy, along with my personal experience with high-functioning anxiety & perfectionism, drives my dedication to helping others navigate this often misunderstood struggle. Coupled with my education and training in clinical psychology, counseling, and anxiety disorders, I am able to provide professional support while truly empathizing with my clients’ experiences.

My therapeutic approach is straightforward. I don’t just nod and says, “Tell me more about that” — while that method may be effective, it never resonated with me as a high-achieving, perfectionistic client. I believe a more interactive and proactive approach is essential for creating long-lasting change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? Get in touch or look at the FAQ section.

Who is therapy for?

Therapy is for everyone, not just for those in crisis. It’s a valuable investment in your personal growth and well-being. Through therapy, you can learn to alleviate symptoms, enhance relationships, overcome self-doubt, and boost self-worth. You deserve to invest in yourself.

How does therapy work?

The therapeutic process focuses on achieving goals that you and your therapist establish, usually centered around specific issues or symptoms. Engaging in therapy can bring numerous benefits, such as resolving issues, reducing symptoms, and fostering healthier relationships. Therapy may also help reduce distress, improve stress management, and enhance your ability to handle challenges related to work, family, and personal relationships. It can lead to a deeper understanding of yourself, your desires, and how to achieve them, increasing your overall well-being and happiness. We will regularly assess progress and seek your feedback to ensure you receive the most effective therapeutic services.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy varies based on the therapist’s qualifications. Sessions with a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor are $155 for 60 minutes, while sessions with a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate range from $95 to $125 for a 60 minute session. We also offer a limited number of sliding scale fee spots and encourage you to ask about their availability. We accept Aetna insurance, with costs based on your network benefits. If we are not in-network with your insurance provider, we use Mentaya to help you receive reimbursement for your out-of-pocket costs based on your out-of-network benefits.

How do I get started?

The first step is to schedule a complimentary 20-minute consultation to determine if your needs align with our expertise. To book your consultation, please email us at hello@sanametx.com or call/text 956-434-2520.

What is the first session like?

During your first appointment, we will discuss the therapeutic process, structure, and our policies and procedures. You and your therapist will work together to create goals based on your specific issues or symptoms. Your therapist will ask about your past, present, and future to tailor a treatment plan just for you.

How long will I need to be in therapy for?

Therapy requires time and effort, and it’s not a quick fix. However, our therapists specialize in short-term, solution-focused counseling, typically lasting 12-16 sessions. If this approach suits you, please inform your therapist. By being here, you’re demonstrating your readiness for change. Schedule a consultation today.

Is online therapy just as effective as in person therapy?

Virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy because it offers the same evidence-based treatments and therapeutic techniques through secure digital platforms. Research shows that virtual therapy can achieve similar outcomes in terms of patient progress and satisfaction. Additionally, it provides greater accessibility and convenience, allowing clients to receive care from the comfort of their own homes, reducing barriers such as transportation and scheduling conflicts.

What is an LPC Associate?

LPC Associates are highly trained post-graduate counselors who have completed a rigorous master’s degree program with 700 hours of counseling experience. After graduation, they pass a national licensing exam to receive their LPC Associate license. They then undergo a clinical supervision period, completing an additional 3,000 hours of counseling work over at least 18 months under the guidance of a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. The supervisor has at least five years of experience and has completed a specialized 40-hour course. Clients benefit from both the Associate’s and the Supervisor’s expertise, often at a reduced cost.

Therapy takes time and effort and is not a quick fix. However, our therapists are trained in short-term solution-focused counseling that is typically between 10-12 sessions. Please be sure to share with your therapist if short-term counseling works best for you. You are here right now, meaning you are ready for change (go you!). Schedule a consultation today.
